Like most knitters, Kerrie was taught by her grandma when she was a young girl. She knitted occasionally until she was pregnant with her first child in the summer of 2000 when the knitting bug well and truly took hold. Kerrie discovered the world of blogs and started her own knitting blog where she discovered thousands of other people around the world who shared her love of all things knitted. She soon began showing pictures of clothes that she had designed herself and when she realised that there was a demand for her designs Kerrie went about getting some of them published. Having had some patterns published in online knitting magazine Knitty.com, Kerrie decided to launch her own online knitting magazine MagKnits.com. MagKnits is now published monthly, has featured designs from all kinds of knitters from seasoned professionals to first time designers and receives around 10,000 hits a day from knitters around the world. Advertising space sells out quickly on MagKnits and Kerrie receives many emails every month from potential new designers. In august 2005, Kerrie took over HipKnits, a small yarn supplier selling hand painted silk and cashmere yarns in the UK. HipKnits has grown significantly since then and now supplies a wide range of luxury yarns and fibres for knitters and spinners as well as a range of yarn stores in the UK. In March 2005 the first HipKnits store will be opening in Sawbridgeworth, Herts. The store will sell all of the yarns available on the website plus many more interesting and unique brands as well as handmade goods. Kerrie lives in Hertforshire with her husband and 2 children. She is an IT Service Level Manager for a big company in the city by day and finds the time in the evenings and weekends to run all of her fibre related pursuits. One day she dreams of earning her living by spending her days knitting, dyeing, spinning and designing. A girl can dream can't she? |
