New Colours
I've been frantically dyeing some of our new yarns into new colours to take to Harrogate. What do you think?

Thanks and Sale..
Thanks for all the comments on the new site layout, I'll be working hard on that this week in an effort to have it up and running before our big festive sale that will be running from 28th November to 8th December.
We have lots of nice new yarns in the shop today, I've been busy labelling and photographing this weekend.
First the sale page, as I explained to the newsletter list this morning there will be no more sale updates like this until the new year. That sounds like ages away doesn't it? The reason for this is that I'm in full on Harrogate mode now (there will be a sale basket there) and after that its our special holiday themed sale (as mentioned above) that will run from Tuesday 28th November to Friday 8th December. Then we'll be having a couple of weeks off over Christmas (with the shopping cart software set up to manage orders while we're away!) and back in the new year with a HUGE sale made up of lots of goodies including 2 whole yarn ranges that we're discontinuing and lots of other bits as well.
Yummy new aran weight 100% organic merino yarns in these 4 colours. There will be more for Harrogate!
Gorgeous new heavy weight sock yarn in an Alpaca / BFl blend. Softest most buttery yarn ever, I love it!

Advice please
So, the last couple of days have been spent playing with new shopping cart software for HipKnits. I am nowhere near finished with it yet, the image on the front page needs to be changed (this was just the first one I found) and none of the categories are populated yet. The look and feel of the site still needs some work and I know that some of the links from the top right hand corner are not working yet.
With all that in mind, what you do you think? I'm puzzling over the categories on the right, I've been through lots of variations and I'm still not sure I have them right but its time for a break and a cup of tea and toast before I fiddle again.
As you are the people who are going to be using the shop, I'd welcome any feedback from you. I'm hoping that the site will be nice and easy to navigate with a proper shopping cart system that will inventory the yarn on the site and prevent you purchasing something that has already sold out. The current site setup relies on me being available to receive the paypal notification of an item being purchased, and then editing the html of the page and uploading the new page to the server before someone else clicks on the add to cart button. Its not ideal.

New Yarns
Oooh, I've been sneaking some of our new yarns on to the website today.

We have new beautiful http://hipknits.co.uk/noveltysilk.htm,

some gorgeous crunchy silk cotton blend,

a couple of colours of merino aran (with lots and lots more to come),

a sneak preview of the alpaca yarns that are to come next week

and also some beautiful, beautiful Schaefer Elaine yarn. This is my personal favourite, I've made a lace scarf that is almost 8 foot long out of less than one skein - its gorgeous stuff..

Name that yarn
I'm currently working on our spring / summer range of colours which will be launched in the new year. The plan is to have a set of colours that will be replicated throughout our whole yarn range, we will also have lots of special one off batches of new colours for you to buy as well. I'm looking at having around 30 colours in total, mixture of variegated and somewhat solids. I'll be asking for your opinions, advice, favourite colours in the next few weeks but for now we have this :
One of our new colourways for 2007. Isn't it beautiful? I'm offering someone the chance to name the yarn and to win this skein pictured here which is aran weight silk, 100g. To be in with a chance of winning leave a comment here with your idea for a name before the end of November. Winner will be announced on 1st December. Get creative, anyone but dad is allowed to enter as I know he would suggest something like 12345 which isn't quite what I'm looking for!

Sale
Just to warn you that I'll be updating the sale page this evening at around 8pm UK time. I will send a message to the newsletter group when its up so if you are subscribed to that then you need to keep an eye on your emails. There is lots of cashmere, the last couple of skeins of Fleece artist, some kid mohair and other bits and bobs that need to be cleared from the shelves of the shop to make way for our new ranges of alpaca, Blue Faced Leicester and Merino that are coming very very soon. Maybe even next week soon!

New wholesale order
A big order was packed and shipped to the Sweet Sheep in Canada today, they are our first Canadian supplier which is really exciting. The shades of aran silk and lace cashmere shown above will be available from their website in the next couple of weeks.
