One Year On

Isn't it amazing how much can change is just one year?

Today is mine and Wayne's first wedding anniversary. I could talk for hours about what that means to me and how I feel about us as a couple but I'll save that. All I will say is that Wayne is my best friend in the world and I couldn't do what I do today without him by my side. Wayne, I love you to pieces and hope that we'll always be as happy together as we are today.

Cameron - week 2

cuddles.jpg

Wayne and I found glitter in Cameron's hair and nappy the other day which officially marks his welcome into the family, glitter gets everywhere in this house!

Brooke is adjusting to her brother's arrival by spending more time online. Seriously, she is great. We all have our Cameron jobs, Wayne is in charge of nappy changing, winding and bath times. Brooke chooses his clothes, passes nappies / wipes etc while he is being changed, tickles his feet to get him started again when he dozes off mid feed, plays with his toys, puts lotion on his dry skin and helps brush his hair. Me? I feed him. I would have delegated that except I seem to be the only one around here who can produce milk.

Brooke is really interested in breastfeeding. She has examined her chest and Wayne's to see if they make milk and was disappointed to find that they didn't. She now walks around the house with her barbies stuffed up her T shirt "giving them milk!"

We worked out that I spend on average 6 hours a day feeding this young man. He's doing good though, weighing in at 10 pounds 6 when the health visitor came round on Monday! That makes it all worthwhile!

Cameron Update - week 1

weekone3.jpg

I love his sleeping bag jammies that he is wearing in this photo, much easier than undoing all those poppers on sleepsuits in the middle of the night.

We've made it through the first week of being a family of 4 and we're all loving it so far! Wayne is off work for 3 weeks which means that I have been able to completely relax all week, I haven't cooked dinner or washed up once - its been total luxury. I've spent most of the time snuggled up with Cameron, getting to know him and feeding him a million times a day! Its all been worth it though, the midwife weighed him this morning and he has put on 6 ounces so he now weighs 9 pounds 8 - not bad for a one week old breastfed baby.

We're settling into a nice routine, to begin with he would feed for an hour then sleep for an hour 24 x7. Now although he still feeds every hour during the day we've managed to persuade him to sleep for about 3 hours at night which is a much better deal as far as Wayne and I are concerned!

Brooke totally adores him. She spends all day kissing him and hugging him and wants to hold his hand / tickle his feet / and generally touch him every minute that he is awake. Its really sweet to watch but must be a little annoying for him!

I'll be back next week with another update. Until then the only plans I have are to sleep, feed Cameron and enjoy my time at home with Wayne, Brooke and Cameron. There are a few photos below until I get chance to set up a proper album somewhere, enjoy them!

Agnes

agnesback.jpg

This is the back of Agnes from Jane Ellison's Simply Noro book. I'm making it in stocking stitch instead of reverse stocking stitch and also may go for 3/4 length sleeves. I usually find Kureyon too scratchy for anything other than feltables but decided that a cardigan would be nice for a change!

Happy Birthday Brooke!

brookebighat.jpg

Happy Birthday to you

Happy Birthday to you

Happy Birthday dear Brooke

Happy Birthday to you

Where have the last 4 years gone? I'll post some birthday pictures later in the day after we've finished wading through her mountain of presents and eaten all of the cake in the house. I love birthdays, even when they are not mine...

Giboulees est fini!

gibcomplete.jpg

I actually finished the knitting on this last week but the ridiculous heat wave we've been having has meant that I stalled on seaming the final sleeve and putting it all together. Now that it is done I cant wait for winter so that I can try it on and see how it fits!

The chunky thick and thin yarn is great fun to work with, a nice quick knit and great texture. I have a skein and a bit left over so I need to work out what to do with that, there may be enough for a sleeveless top for Brooke, oh - except that its blue! Perhaps the next baby will be more obliging, if it ever decides to be born that is!

My favourite detail of this sweater was the sleeves. Bell shaped and raglan they are hilariously long but fit me perfectly, monkey girl that I am. 23 inches from cast on to underarm! That's a lot of knitting...

Beautiful gifts

A huge thank you to Alison for the lovely parcel that arrived yesterday, look what she sent..

A beautiful cashmere hat with cables and seed stitch for the baby.

alisonhat.jpg

A gorgeous long skinny funky scarf for little Miss Brooke.

Some Habu goodness for me to play with, the peach cotton has already turned into these simple baby slippers.. You know, I think I made too many pairs of baby slippers last year. I just picked up the needles and yarn and 2 hours later without having to refer to a pattern I had these. What do you think about the flower? Yes or no? I wasn't sure if the slippers looked a little plain without somthing so I embroidered a lilac flower on one but now I'm not sure about the 2nd one.. If I have a boy these will be going to my new neice who has been here for a few weeks but hasn't been gifted with any handmade slippers yet. Shock horror!

What a fun parcel to receive, thanks again Alison!

Oh, and just in case you wanted a close up of Brooke and her beady hair, here you go. I did these for her last week after we saw someone on TV with beads in their hair. We are having a lot of fun on our own in the week at the moment, poor Wayne comes home from work each night dreading what we've been up to in the day! Hee hee hee..

Technical hitch

So, Brooke and I are falling into a nice routing being at home together. We've been starting the day with breakfast outside and then she colours and reads her magazines while I knit for a while before we go out in the morning. By lunchtime its too hot for me to venture out so we keep busy in the afternoons with painting, playdoh and other arty kids stuff..

Yesterday morning we had finished breakfast and were watching the birds eating some bread we had put out for them while I knitted the denim sweater. Suddenly I realised that I was being watched intently by a very serious pair of eyes. What's up Brooke? "I hope you are making that for a boy" she said "because I don't wear blue and if that is for me then you know I just won't wear it so you may as well make me something pink instead"

Oh. I hadn't thought of that when I started. Talk about knocking the wind out of my sails, just as I was loving the denim knitting as well. I tried to negotiate but just ended up laughing when she went upstairs and came down with some pink all seasons cotton from my stash and gave it to me saying "if you make some pink flowers with this and stick them all over the jumper so that you can't see the blue maybe I will wear it one time. OK?"

Guess what's been put on hold for a while until I can figure out a way around this one. I'm thinking about either pink ribbon or pink buttons / sdequins sewn onto the sweater somewhere or maybe a pink crochet / knit flower to attach.

Ho hum, what would you do with such a fussy girly girl?

Teeny knitting progress..

I was wandering in Borders yesterday when I spotted the new IK on the shelves, I haven't had a chance to look through it properly yet but I think its great that we are actually getting this reasonably quickly in the UK now. Woo Hoo.. I love getting new books / magazines, even if there isn't much in them to knit just sitting down with a cup of tea and a new magazine to flick through is something to look forward to.

Knitwise - this is a close up of the cable on the front of the denim sweater so far. Slightly more interesting than the back, but only slightly.

denimcable.jpg

The 2nd Gib sleeve is doing OK as well. I'm actually about 5 inches further than this picture shows, it doesn't make that much difference to the overall look though!

gibsleeve2.jpg

(its all looking a little blue around here isn't it? Is that a premonition do you think? Brooke's vote is for girl that will be born on Friday, I've started insisting the baby is a boy just to even the votes up a little. She now just looks at me with a "poor deluded mummy" glint in her eye and shakes her head when I talk about her having a brother. Please don't let it be too much longer before we find out!)

Its been a bit too hot to knit much recently and with Brooke at home with me full time now the sewing machine hasn't seen the light of day for a while. It's Brooke's birthday next week so I've been investing all of my nesting instincts into getting ready for her party. We've shopped, made up all the party bags and I've written a list of instructions in case I'm in hospital on the day of her party so that someone else knows who is coming, what time, what they need to take from home and what to borrow from the kids place that we're having the party. Now that I feel that is in control what shall I start on next?

PS - I'm blaming Anita for my current desire to knit Birch. What is wrong with me and lace these days? Have you seen how gorgeous her's is looking?

Giboulees update

So, we have the front, back and first sleeve all blocked and seamed. I LOVE IT!

gibouleespieced.jpg

I tried it on as best I could with this beachball of a stomach I have at the moment and its looking good. I'm not sure if it will be long enough but that will have to wait until I'm slim enough to get into it before I know the answer to that one.

I am totally in love with the bell sleeves, they fit beautifully and are just the right length for my long long arms. See how neat the raglan seams turned out as well? I can't wait to be able to wear this sweater in the winter..

I've been alternating knitting the cabley front of the denim sweater and also the Giboulees sleeve. I'm about 1/4 of the way through the sleeve now, its a bit too warm and fluffy to spend all my knitting time on in this heat. (yes, I do plan to moan about the heat every day until either the baby is born or the temp drops below 30 degrees.)

Alison and Lynette are right though, lets get the most special baby project completed first!

Hot enough for ya?

footbubbler.jpg

On what was officially the hottest weekend of the year in our area (great timing for me!) at least one member of our family knew the best way to beat the heat. Brooke loves what she calls the "foot bubbler" and when its coupled with an ice cream and some Garfield sunglasses what could be better?

To answer a couple of questions from recent comments, I'm really enjoying knitting with Rowan denim. I haven't used the yarn before but I do like knitting with cotton, its turned my bamboo needles blue but that's all part of the charm. I had to drop a needle size to get gauge but that's quite normal for me and cotton, I'm finding that the stitches look fairly neat even without blocking so I'd say that this yarn is a success for me. I finished the first sleeve and cast on for the front yesterday, depending on when this baby decides to put in an appearance you could be seeing a finished object sometime soon..

The poncho pattern in the new Rowan, Karis is knit not crochet. Woo Hoo! Its definitely on my to do list now.

Denim fun

denimback.jpg

Its not a very exciting knit but that's just what I need right now. The back of the denim Rope sweater is finished and I'm about half way through the first sleeve. I'm changing the neck and following the pattern for the Breeze sweater which is in the same book, which is a little more fitted.
