Here are a few of my favourite things...
My plan for HipKnits world domination came to a bit of a standstill yesterday when I spent most of the day looking after poor Brooke with her high temperature self. Still, I'm sure I can manage to get the rest of the labelling and dyeing done over the next day or so, don't you think?
Its all a bit scattered around here this morning, I don't have the camera cable with me right now so no pics to share. Has anyone else received their March copy of Simply Knitting Magazine yet? Mine came in the post on Saturday. I have a pattern in it for this shrug which I designed AGES ago - look how teeny Brooke is in the pics. I can't believe how much she has changed in 2 years. Bless her.. Anyway, this was one of the patterns that Simply Knitting bought last year, its nice to see it published although the picture doesn't really show you what it looks like on does it? The fluffy yarn they used for the cuffs looks cool though. Oh, and if you turn over the page after the shrug pattern you can read the interview I did for them. Excuse the photo that goes with the interview, it was only when they asked me to send one over that I realised how few pics I have of me. This one was taken at a wedding a few days before Cameron was born!
Also, in an effort to distract you from the fact that there is no real news her today, here are a few things that people have been making with our HipKnits silk yarn recently:
Christina made her 2nd Clapotis from our aran weight silk in Bluebell and is working on Knitty's Shimmer with some silk that I custom dyed for her. I can't wait to see pictures of it.
Jacqueline made a beautiful purse from what looks like the same shade of silk as Christina! Bluebell is one of our most popular colourways, must remember to dye some more..
Emily also made a clapotis out of some dapple grey silk. This is one of my favourite colours!
I love the Vogue cardigan that Maureen made from some Cat Dog coloured silk. It looks amazing, don't you think?
Maeve made the longest scarf ever from some cashmere sock yarn! (scroll down a bit, its worth it!) I would have got bored way before I finished that scarf, I can tell you!
Beautiful, beautiful shawl made from laceweight cashmere. Just gorgeous.

Dad and I have spent all day today getting the place ready, my favourite part is the nice big studio / workroom at the back where I'll be doing the dyeing. Dad fixed me up lots of hanging space for drying yarn and I have so much work surface its brilliant. I can't wait for you all to come and see it.

Four Friday Facts
Have you all seen the new Kim Hargreaves "New Beginnings" Spring collection? Just beautiful. I wish that they were available in pattern form, although I understand where she is coming from in only offering kits, because some of them are just perfect but I don't have the spare cash to buy a whole kit right now.
I'm definitely more of a cardigan girl so Sal is right up my street. I love the shaping and detail on Stevie but I'd make it longer. Ali is also a gorgeous design and if I were tempted to make a sweater then it would have to be Fay. Just in case anyone is tempted to spend a ridiculous amount of money on me then its size large in coffee rich or leafy. Thanks! ha..
I've got one skein of yarn left looking for a home in the MagKnits handspun challenge that we're putting together later on in the year. Its from Heidi over at my paper crane and I covet it. Pink and sparkly and I'm guessing around 70 metres. It would make a beautiful something..
This weekend is all about finishing off the shop. I've got dad at the ready to help put up shelves, curtain poles and start stocking the shelves tomorrow. Mum has offered to stay at home and look after Cam while Wayne takes Brooke to the cinema and little does she know but I may just leave out the sewing machine and some fabric for her to make me some nice simple curtains if she gets a chance. My aim is that by the middle of next week everything will be done. My last remaining few jobs are to make up the goodie bags, put together all the kits and label the last few skeins of yarn.
I can't think what fact number four was going to be now. I'll edit here if it comes to me later!

Frankfurt
Yesterday was a mini adventure for me. I left the house at 6am, some would be fooled into thinking that I was leaving for a day in the office but no - I was going somewhere far more exciting than that. By 7.30 I was on a RyanAir flight to Frankfurt Hahn airport. By 10.30 local time I was on a shuttle bus to Frankfurt main railway station and at about 11.45 I was meeting Alison for the first time.
We had about 3 hours to shop and gossip before I had to be back on the bus so we made the most of it and visited 2 yarn stores and had a nice lunch. The third yarn store we made it to looked amazing but they were just closing as we got there so we had to make do with looking through the window imagining how lovely the yarn would be. Such a shame.
I've never seen so much Regia in one place! Both stores we visited had balls and balls of it, I've never knit with any although I do have a ball that I won in a Harlot contest a few weeks ago. I ended up not buying any yarn at all, partly because I couldn't decide what I wanted and partly because I do have a whole garage full of sock yarn back at home. It was nice to visit a yarn store and not see the usual Rowan, Patons, Sirdar collection though. We also found handknit socks on sale for 12 euro, I was tempted to buy a pair and pass them off as my own but none of them were quite right..
It was a great day, although a little too brief, and with RyanAir's sale, the return flights including taxes cost me less than a days train ticket into London would have done. In fact the flights were only 1 penny each way, the tax was a little more but it was a nice reasonable and easy day. I spent a lot of time on the bus or the plane which was totally relaxing for me. I read 2 magazines, 2 books, made a lot of lists and sketched out a few projects that I really need to find time to start. I also managed to sleep all the way back to Hahn airport on the bus which was lovely. Afternoon naps are my favourite.
So all of that in a day and I still managed to get back home in time for dinner with the kids, it was just like going into London to work for the day - only a whole lot more fun. You'll have to wait for Alison to post the photos that she took of the yarn stores, I remembered my camera but the batteries were flat. Doh!
Funniest moment of the day? That had to be while waiting to board the flight on the way back, the German police were walking around with big Alsation dogs who were sniffing at everyone's bags and coats, I was slightly worried that they would sniff out my smuggled in hand luggage bamboo knitting needles but they passed me by without issue. The lady next to me who was eating a Mars Bar was not so lucky as the dog snatched it out of her hand and ate it! I've never seen so much panic as there was on the policeman's face, he was FURIOUS with the dog. Everyone thought that it was hilarious and the policeman took it quite well in the end. I can imagine that stern words were had with the dog when he got him out of site of the public though!
I'm getting quite sociable in my old age it would appear. I had lunch with Juju on Monday, the kids and I paid a visit to Carolyn on Saturday where Brooke and Cam got to terrorise the goats, we watched a kid being born, Brooke screamed in terror of the dogs while Cam shouted woof woof at them and we had a beautiful lunch. It was a good day but I think that all the animals (and the humans too!) were glad when we left them to their peace and quiet! Both children slept all the way home in the car from that one so I had another hour or so of peace and quiet. I could get used to it I think.

Back to School
Half term is over and done with and Brooke is back to school today. She spent most of the week with mum and dad on holiday (not sure that they would count it as a holiday, rumour has it that they have taken this week off work as well to recover from last week!) and came home looking like this :

Yep, first baby tooth lost while she was away from Wayne and I. :( Lucky for us the tooth fairy was persuaded to leave her the going rate and not an extravagantly high amount that the grandparents thought she deserved, its an expensive business loosing teeth these days. At £1 a go she is looking forward to loosing the rest of them!
Cameron really really missed her while she was away. A couple of weeks ago Wayne and I were discussing the fact that he doesn't say many words. I know you shouldn't compare children but its virtually impossible not to and as we were unable to shut Brooke up from the minute she said her first words we were both quietly wondering whether Cam was on track or not. A quick check of the child-raising books that we haven't touched this time around revealed that yes he was. So we forgot all about that and just carried on as normal.
He seems to have gone through a huge spurt in the last couple of weeks both physically and mentally. All of a sudden his trousers are all ending above his ankles and he is coming out with more and more words every day. At first Brooke was touched that he could say her name. After 2 days of him following her around the house calling "Brooke Brooke" at the top of her voice she is not so sure.
The kids and I made biscuits yesterday afternoon. Brooke cut out some beautiful shapes and Cameron just mashed his side into lumps and when they were cooked you couldn't taste the difference. When Brooke was small we didn't really let her have sweets, biscuits etc but Cameron gets away with a lot more. When the biscuits were cooled I called out to Brooke and asked her if she wanted one. The next minute a little person was standing at my feet, tugging on my jeans. I looked down to find Cameron looking up at me. "biscuit mummy?" he said. My heart melted and he ate far too many biscuits just because it was a new word that we hadn't even tried to teach him, he just said it all by himself and as soon as he realised what he was going to get in return for saying it, he said it all the more! God help us when he learns to say chocolate, I'm not sure I'd be able to resist him...
In knitting news, I made my self imposed deadline of a sock a week for the Sockapaloooza swap. My socks are done, apart from the kitchener. I'm not too confident with kitchener and need to save that part until I'm sitting in peace and quiet on my own with an instruction book open in front of me.
Just to remind you that the yarn was HipKnits sock yarn that dad dyed to stripe in shades of turquoise blue and red. I kind of made the pattern up based on other sock patterns that I've seen, its just 8 rows of 2x2 rib at the top and then stocking stitch the rest of the way. I haven't made any fancy patterned socks yet, maybe some Jaywalkers in the future for me though. These socks are made to fit a man's foot per the request of my sockpal. Wayne tried them on for me to make sure the fit was OK and although he said they felt really nice on his feet he quashed my glimmer of hope that I could one day knit him a pair of socks by saying "don't waste your time, make something for someone that would appreciate it" Oh, OK. The socks are due a kitchener, wash and block and then they will be wrapped up ready and waiting the May 1st postage date.

oh man
Its the amazing disappearing blog trick again. How annoying. Again, my entries page in MT shows all the entries when you first go in but if you try and filter them it shows nothing at all. I just reopened the ticket with MT support. Poo.

Spin spin sugar
I've been spinning more and more this week. I now have no fiber in the house (apart from the 10 kilos of undyed merino for HipKnits but that doesn't count, does it?) This is the week's haul so far, the plain white one in the middle is cotton sliver which I really really enjoyed spinning. A lot of people told me that it was harder to spin than wool but I enjoyed it just the same. I'm just about to buy a nice big bunch of it from the handweavers studio to play with. I've now finished all of the
I'm also tempted by the thought of a drum carder. See the beautiful batts that Adrian and her husband and also Sweet Georgia have made recently? Imagine the fun I could have with that in the shop? I have no idea about which model to get or anything like that, the only 2 I can really find in the UK are the Louet Junior Drum carder, the Ashford drum carder or the Louet drum carder, all available from P&M Woolcraft. Anyone have any thoughts, tips, experiences with any of those carders? I like the look of the Ashford one best and it would match my Joy spinning wheel nicely but I know that's not a big consideration really! I think this is a couple of months time purchase so no rush..
Oh, and especially for Yaharia, here is Angelica. Just about to start the hip shaping. Excuse the poor photo!

Koolaid and other shopping
I just ordered a load of KoolAid from Koolaiduk.com and it arrived this morning. I'm putting together dye your own sock yarn kits to sell on HipKnits and thought this was the easiest way to go about it. There will be a skein of sock yarn, 2 or 3 packets of koolaid and instructions all packaged up nicely together. I think I'll be ordering a lot more from this website, the service was nice and fast and there was a little note included on the packing slip to say good luck with the shop, how nice is that?
I've also ordered far too many yarns for the shop, I've just spent out my entire bank account and overdraft on a big order from Araucania yarns and another one from Schaeffer yarns. Along with the Malabrigio which I will be selling (think it was just alcohol induced greed that made me want to keep it all formyself) these new yarns will be making their debut at the shop opening on 4th and 5th March. Shortly after that they will be available on the website and then at Olympia at the end of March.
What else is happening here? Not too much. Kilos and kilos of yarn to label, sock number 2 is half way through the leg and I haven't touched Angelica since I knit with Anna last weekend. That's not too cool is it?

Snippets
You can blame the disorganised content here on the fact that Wayne is cooking a romantic valentines dinner and at 8pm I've had 3 healthy glasses of gin and tonic on an empty stomach. OK?
I've been trying so hard to knit more of Angelica. I love the pattern and the silk but really, I spend so many hours a day dyeing, drying, labelling, packing, and generally "touching" the silk that when it comes to knititng, I'm already a little sick of it. How wrong is that? I'm going to have this done in time for the opening on 4th march though even if it means not sleeping at all the night before. I only have about 3 inches of the body and the sleeves to do, totally possible - yes?
Does anyone else here have 20 kilos of Malabrigio handpainted yarn sitting in their hallway? I do. I'm not going to sell any of it, I want to keep it all just for me me me me. Its so beautiful, I've never seen it in person before but took the word of lots of HipKnits customers that it was worth ordering. Damn, they were right!
Should we be worried about Cam and his shoe fetish? (welcome all you strange people who will find your way here from Google!) Anything related to feet (shoes, socks, feet themselves!) are called shoes you know and he loves to wear anyone elses. This is Cam trying on Wayne's Tims while Wayne wasn't looking. He also has been known to walk into the hall wearing my knee length boots, Brooke's school shoes and anything else that he can get his feet into. Love him.
See this I have 29 of these identical pictures on my camera. Anyone want to guess what it is? I'm sure I can find a prize for the first person who is correct.
I think I just won one of Alicia's bird cages. But that was 2 gins in so maybe I didn't. I should go check really shouldn't I?
I updated HipKnits today and I want to keep all of the handmade needle cases for myself. Can I?
Anything else that I think you should know right now? Nope, don't think so. I may remember something else later though so I'll update if I do. Happy Valentines day to those of you who are celebrating. xx
Oh yes, I know what else I wanted to tell you; I don't like the new Rowan Knitting magazine, number 39. I'm so sad that I don't like it, I used to live for the Rowan Mag coming through the door but not any more. The last 2 have been disappointing to me so I think I'll stop my rowan international membership :( In my very humble opinion Kid Acne should not be allowed to design knitwear again. What the hell was that thing he put on the tank top? A seahorse?

The good, the bad and the totally exciting?
Which would you like first; the good news, the bad news or the totally exciting news? Lets start at the top and gently plummet towards the unpleasant shall we?
Saturday was a good good day. Coffee, knitting and gossip with Anna in the morning followed by collecting the keys to the shop on Saturday afternoon! Woo Hoo! It looks amazing, just as nice as I hoped that it would. It isn't totally done yet but will be before next weekend so that I can start cleaning and getting the place ready but I was able to take mum and dad around yesterday. Wayne and the kids came with me to pick up the keys and I think I can safely say that everyone that has seen it so far thinks that it is perfect. I took lots of before photos, this is the only one I'm going to show you though. It is the view from the front door through the main shop area to the door at the back that leads to the work space / production area / dyeing room. So, once the carpet is down, skirting board on, and a few more bits of plastering and painting are finished I'll be there! Have I told you how excited I am about this?
So now for the good. I finished sock number 1 for my Sockapaloooza pal. Woo Hoo. I "think" it should fit OK, I am a little nervous because the size of it looks very different but after some consultation with Anna on Saturday and Wayne last night we all think it should be OK. I'm casting on for number 2 tonight when I've wound the 2nd half of the yarn.
Are you happy enough to be able to hear the bad news without getting too upset? We've had our first Olympic disaster with up and coming lace knitter Kerrie Allman pulling out due to a horrifying case of too much to do and not enough time to compete. Do join me in wishing her all the best for the future, I hope to see her at future Olympics.

Stitch 06 and Olympic Knitting
I'll be at Stitch this year again, 23rd - 26th march in Olympia. As well as selling lots of lovely HipKnits yarns I'm teaching 2 classes (ARGH) I'll be knitting flowers on Thursday and Saturday and making felt beads on Friday and Sunday. Come along and join me if you fancy it, I'll be giving out kits with samples of HipKnits yarns and fibres at each one of them, just in case that sways your decision at all!
I've also decided what I'm going to do with my laceweight cashmere for the Olympic challenge. I'm making one of these. ARGH. 16 days. It would have been nice if I could have finished winding the cashmere before now don't you think?
Guess who picks up the keys to their new shop tomorrow? We're all about slatwalls and shop fittings here at the moment. Its a whole new world and a lot more fun than you would imagine!

New Plans and Puppet Shows
I bought the Jems patterns from Sauniell the other day, I want to make the red one with some black Calmer that I have in my stash. I think I can make the gauge work, I'll be experimenting with that one over the weekend I think. The pattern reminded me a lot of Eunny's Argyle Vest pattern which I totally loved and was about to buy until the steeking portion of it clicked in. Steeking is something I've never done and honestly, can't ever imagine doing. Not right now anyway. So I passed on that one and decided to make Sauniell's tank instead.
I'm learning how to let Brooke make her own way in her crafty things, its hard for me sometimes not to jump in and do things for her. She loves to draw, colour and paint and she comes up with the most beautiful pictures if left to her own devices. She's also started writing stories, never without her pen and notepad while in the car she often reads out what she has been working on. She wrote a whole story the other week about Croaky the frog who loved to jump on lily pads. She spelt all the words right by herself, the only one she had to ask for help with was croaky.
For Christmas she got this pompom pet making set. I helped her do the first one and was a bit bossy with her about where the eyes legs etc should be stuck on. I promised her that we'd make some more but one evening after school she decided to make them herself. They turned out so cute! I must leave her to it more often instead of showing her where all the pieces should go. She was very proud that she didn't read the instructions, just looked at the pictures and tried to copy.
While I'm in the mood to talk about Brooke and her creativity (I always remember the song on that Disney Sing me a story with Belle program when I write that word. You know, the one where they spell it out C R E A T I V I T Y creativity. I love it!) I should show you these puppets she made while she was off with chicken pox.
This is Brooke peeping over the back of our office chair with her puppet show. She drew mummy, daddy, Brooke and cameron, cut them out and used sellotape to stick them on to pen lids. Her puppet shows were hilarious, they had Wayne and I nearly crying with laughter. Complete with fake voices for each character and such funny story lines, I love this girl so much!
I'm feeling very emotional and super close to the kids at the moment, don't we all go through these stages when we just feel so much more in love with them than usual? Yes, they are still as stressful every now and again and at times I'd gladly swap them for the chance to sleep in past 6am but I just have to look at them to realise why I love them so much. I could gladly just shut myself away with the 2 of them and not leave the house right now, mind you that probably has as much to do with other types of stress outside of the house! Sigh..

Happy Birthday Wayne...
Do you know what day it is today? Its the birthday of a very special husband and daddy. I won't tell you how old he is, he would not like that, and I'd hate to upset him on his birthday. We all love you Wayne, thank you for being the best husband and dad we know. Without his love and support I couldn't do half the things I do now so as much as he drives me mad at times, I love him to pieces. The kids and I are planning a special party for him tonight with Incredibles and pirate themed party stationary. After we get home from school we'll be baking cakes, writing cards and wrapping presents. I'm not sure who is more excited, Brooke or I!
xxxxxxxxxxxx
I have been looking around for some handmade patchwork quilts and throws that I could use as decoration and maybe also sell when the HipKnits shop opens. I've been a little obsessed with vintage eiderdowns and other fabrics recently but really wanted some handmade patchwork quilts etc as well.
I happened to mention this quest to my supplier of sari silk and just look what turned up via DHL a couple of weeks later. Samples of handmade cotton patchwork quilts and throws.
I love them. The colours are bright and vibrant, the quality is amazing and the prices are good. I'll be orderering a few of these to have in stock I think. I might even have them in here time for the shop opening on 4th 5th March. Hopefully.

Hair Bear Bunch
I hadn't realised until the whole Cameron's hair debate started how unconventional some of my ideas were. Wayne and I see nothing wrong with letting him have BIG afro hair, he is only 18 months old after all. I also really like it when its all plaited up, its neat and keeps it out of the way. Cam is still not too impressed with having his hair done but he does sit still now and only lets out the occasional "ow" which doesn't mean that much because he'll say "ow" for no apparant reason when he is just sitting reading a book!
I'm beginning to realise that more and more people think that we're trying to make him look like a girl. That's not how we see it at all. As far as I'm concerned he's a little boy, not even a baby any more, but I don't want to cut his hair short until he is a bit older. Most of the mixed race boys in Brooke's school have short short hair, all the same as each other. One little boy has his hair in braids, I love the fact that he is an individual. If Cam wants his hair cut short when he is older then that's OK. If he wants to keep it plaited then that's OK as well. I just want him to have a choice and I feel like if we cut his hair all short now then he'll never be in a position to grow it long again. I don't want him to look the same as all the other boys, unless that's what he wants when he gets bigger.
For now, his hair is staying big. The first time Brooke saw him with his hair all braided she said he looked like a little footballer. She's right, most of the mixed race or black footballers have their hair braided so why not our Cam? I'll brush it into an afro, plait it or twist it up into little bobbles most days. I prefer it plaited but when you're running out of time this keeps it nice and tidy. How cute is he? I'm beginning to realise that there is nothing wrong with being different to everyone else, I kind of like it that way. Shall I also admit that Cam plays with Brooke's dolls and babies with her or does that also mean I'm trying to turn him into a girl!
Ooh - I know what else I wanted to tell you. I received a big FED EX box of goodies from my silk supplier yesterday. Lots of new kinds of silk, similar to the sari silk but infinitely softer. Also some other different goods, I must get some pics today so that I can show you. I hope you love them as much as I do..

Sockapaloooza
I signed up for Alison's sockapaloooza and I'm so excited! I had hoped to be able to make cashmere socks but that didn't fit in with my pal's request so instead I chose some of the HipKnits merino and nylon sock yarns which I'm dyeing in abundance at the moment. I cast on for the first sock on last night in front of Second Chance Sunday ER (all time top program!) and I'm already an inch or 2 into the leg.
The yarn is half bright blue and half red, its doing exactly what I hoped it would and striping nicely with just a little odd pooling every now and again but I like the way it looks. These socks are going to be my train knitting for the next few weeks, I'm going to try and go against all of my natural instincts and knit these now instead of leaving it until the last minute and then not sleeping for the week before they are due to be posted! What do you think my chances are?
Oh, and to my sockpal if you're reading here, don't feel like you have to make the kind of socks I requested. I would love some long long socks but I realise that's a bit unfair to ask you to knit all that extra way for me so any length that you do will be fine. Honestly.. I can't wait to see what they come up with, that's half the fun of something like this isn't it?

That Friday feeling
Thanks for pandering to my self obsessed moment yesterday, I feel a bit bad about moaning so openly! I do love what I do, its like anything though - sometimes you just need a little reassurance that you're not wasting your time!
I've got the MagKnits archive page just about all ready to go today, it should be up in the next few hours. Jenn did a load of work on it for me and I just needed to add a few things, I'll be proof reading it later on today and when I'm happy that its up to date I'll upload it.
Brooke and I went for a little wander around the antiques shops near where the new HipKnits shop is going to be the other day and I'm trying SO HARD not to become obsessed with antiques shops! One of them was just gorgeous, I could have spent hours in there looking at all of the vintage fabric and quilts etc. I did snap up a couple of beautiful vintage feather eiderdowns to go with the teeny collection that I seem to be building up. I'm going to have them in the shop for sale along with a few other vintage and patchwork bits.
The shop is all painted and should be ready for the fittings to start going in next week. I can't wait to show it to Wayne and mum and dad when its all ready, so far its only been Brooke and I and 2 friends who have any idea where it is and what it looks like. I was awake for ages last night planning what I'm going to have where. I couldn't sleep partly because Cam has been a bit off colour recently and woke up 6 times last night and partly because I am so excited about this.
The weekend is going to be a nice quiet one. I think a quick trip to the Handweavers studio is in order tomorrow, I have a big dye order outstanding and might just need to pop in there for a couple of little pots of dye until my massive 1 kilo jars arrive next week. Apart from that and a trip to Pizza Hut at some point for dinner I'm going to be relaxing. What about you guys, any plans?

MagKnits facts
Here's a few things about MagKnits that you may or may not know.
I love putting the magazine together. If I didn't love it and believe in it I sure as hell wouldn't do it. Currently I'm spending about 2 hours a day emailing designers, advertisers, chasing people up. Probably about 8 hours a month putting the site together, uploading images, coding etc. Its a lot of hard work for little or no money. The revenue from the advertisers pretty much goes back to the designers, the site hosting fees - I haven't managed to take any out at all yet but I'm hoping that will change.
The tech editing is a HUGE part of the magazine, only last week I was saying to Wayne that I didn't think I could do it without Alexandra, well now I have to! I totally understand and support her decision to step down as tech editor, as I just explained its an awful lot of work for very little money = its my crusade but I don't expect anyone else to do the same. Not sure if I'm looking for another tech editor or not at the moment, let me see how the next couple of issues go on my own.
Every month, without fail I get HUNDREDS of emails from people within the first few hours of MagKnits going out. The negative far far far outweigh the positive. For instance yesterday I had 2 positive emails (one of them a Blue Mountain thank you card - that almost made me cry!) and 76 complaints. The complaints were all to do with the patterns, too many - not enough - no men's clothes - don't like sushi. Some of them were to do with the fact that they don't like having adverts on MagKnits, one of them pointed out that Knitty pays designers a lot better than I do and didn't that make me feel guilty? Well, you know what? Not one little bit.
Every month, I check out 3 main places for MagKnits feedback. You can read their reviews here :
Livejournal knitting community. Only read here if you're up for some serious critiscism. I'll admit that this time last year their comments could make me cry - so personal! - but now its like water off a ducks back. I do try and take any constructive comments and improve but on the whole they can just be mean. This month, they were quite happy..
Knittyboard. I love the Knittyboard girls, every single one of them. x x
Knitters Review Forums
On the whole people seemed to like it. Which is good because as I waded through all the moans and complaints yesterday I wondered why on earth I bother?
More cheerful tomorrow maybe? Who knows...

Cashmere scarf
Thanks so much for all the comments, emails and wishes on the shop. Somehow I knew you guys would be as excited as I am. I'll make sure to keep you up to date with all the news and I'm looking forward to seeing a lot of you in about a month's time. Gulp.
Dad has been helping me out loads by dyeing a lot of the stock for HipKnits, when I went to pick some up last time mum had laid claim to a red and brown skein of cashmere. It was one of the oddments of cashmere that only weighed around 50g (more like this will be on the sale page later on today) At first I thought she was going to knit with it, then she asked me to make her a little lacy scarf out of it. I tried to tell her how much it would cost her to buy it and have me knit it for her but she promptly replied that she would start charging minimum wage for babysitting so I shut up!
Sitting in front of the TV on Sunday night I cast on and decided on a stocking stitch feather and fan. Nice and repetitive and mindless in a way. I'm now halfway through the yarn and the scarf is about 20 inches long. I think it will make a lovely little scarflet, hopefully I should have it done in a day or two.
For those of you not on the mailing list, the new MagKnits is live. I defy anyone not to want to knit the sushi, how cute is that?
