Making time for making stuff

I have been slowly catching up on blog reading the last few days, I see that Eunny has just been given what must be one of the best jobs in the world! Dee was talking about some comments left for Eunny about her having no time to knit, I totally agree with Dee - my own knitting time has reduced to almost nothing since HipKnits has taken off so much. In fact, with all the knitting for the book and the designing / knitting for a new HipKnits collection of patterns I'm feeling a little bit over knitting with my own yarns at the moment. I've been sorting through my non HipKnits stash of yarns which consists of some Hello Yarn handspun, a few skeins of Rowan and lots of lovely sock yarn. I'm not too enthusiastic about any of it though.

So this weekend I'm all excited about my sewing machine. I made some new curtains for the shelves in the shop just before Trinity was born and also finished the patchwork quilts for both Trinity and Brooke. Over the next few days I'm hoping to get some time to do the following :

Finish Cameron's patchwork quilt.
Make some bunnies for Easter presents. I bought the Big Footed Bunny pattern, how cute is that? (I also have both of the other books and there is definitely a spaceman and robot in my future somewhere!)
Start and finish a sling.
Make some little trousers and a dress for Trinity from some of the Japanese fabric that I have lots of at the moment.

Pictures next week, have a nice weekend. x

Quiet time

wed.jpg

Firstly, a huge thank you to everyone who has left comments or sent lovely emails or cards and gifts through the post. You are all so kind, its making me very emotional. I'm gathering pictures so that I can do some proper thank you posts over the next few weeks. A special thank you to Carol as well, I didn't get an email address or surname so I dont know exactly who I'm thanking but thank you anyway!

Wayne is off for 3 weeks on paternity leave / holiday and its so lovely to have him around. He has been doing everything around the house, all the cooking, cleaning and school runs. That means that I have been spending lots of time doing nothing, unusual for me..

One of the nicest things about breastfeeding is all that quiet time together. Trinity feeds around 10 times a day for an average of 30 minutes at a time, thats 5 hours a day of just sitting looking at her and maybe reading a book at the same time. It is so peaceful and relaxing and a great way of making me just slow down and appreciate how perfect she really is.

Brooke is never more than an inch from Trinity's side when we are all at home together and so yesterday morning I found myself in bed with both my girls for an hour while Trinity fed and Brooke read to us both and chatted about girl stuff. It was lovely. I found out lots of interesting things about Brooke, like that she is not in love with the boy that she was in love with last time we chatted about boys, she has a new boyfriend now. When I asked her why she didn't love the old boyfriend any more she looked at me all seriously and explained that he had put a pea up his nose at lunch the other day at school, then blew it out of his nose into a tissue and ate it. Good reason for falling out of love with someone don't you think?

What a difference a week makes

trinityemmacardigan.jpg

The caption for this photo could either be "Trinity in cardigan hand knitted from handspun yarn by Emma" or "mummy and Trinity play dressing up in new clothes while daddy gets the big kids from school"

One week old today! It hardly seems possible that only just over a week ago I still looked like this and we had no idea whether there was a boy baby or a girl baby hiding away in there.

The labour was exactly as I hoped it would be, quick and fairly easy with no pain relief and the midwife pretty much leaving me to it.
I woke up at about midnight on Friday night with contractions and watched the clock for an hour or so before waking up Wayne. We called in the reinforcements and arrived at the hospital just after 3. The midwife examined me at 3.30 and advised us that as I was only 3cm dilated we were in for a long night with lots of hard work from me as third births are notoriously long and hard. I turned down her offer of going home as I remembered how quick the other 2 had been and didn't want to get caught out. I used a TENS machine for pain relief with Brooke and Cam and so at 3.30 I decided to have a bath and then get the TENS machine out however when I got out of the bath at 5am I was fully dilated. My waters broke at 5.20 and Trinity was born at 5.23 without any complications at all.

Out of the three it was the easiest one, although both Brooke and Cameron were born quickly and with only the use of a TENS machine for pain relief Brooke was born with the cord around her neck and there was meconium in my waters with Cameron so both previous deliveries had pediatricians rushing to us and lots of panic although they both had happy endings.

The kids love their new sister and she has fitted in so well with the rest of the family. She is sleeping for between 3 and 6 hours at a time overnight which is worth a million, its amazing how you can cope with anything when you get a good nights sleep isn't it?

I finally found good reason to open a flickr account so you can see lots of pics here including the first one of her and I when she was about 2 minutes old.

I mean it this time, this is the LAST HipKnits shop update before the baby. Really. Unless the baby is very late that is in which case I might find time to squeeze some more dyeing in!

We have lots of cashmere / silk.

Lots of cashmere.

Some cashmere on the sale page.

Go check it out! I'll be here, waiting for the baby to be born! x

Still here...

I'm still here, and getting bigger by the day. I've been plagued with well meaning comments from strangers in the street for MONTHS now about how huge I am, how it has to be twins, how I have to have my dates wrong. Very annoying but it comes with the territory. I've been busy telling people that I was much bigger with Mr Cameron over 9 pounds baby who came on his due date but having seen these pics that Wayne took this morning I'm not so sure that I was bigger with him any more!

39_weeks.jpg

Baby is quite happy and showing no signs of coming early, Brooke was born at 38 weeks and I'm hoping that I don't go overdue with this one. I'm spending lots of time with my puffy ankles up on the sofa but its a little bit boring so I have been sneaking in some trips to the shop to pack orders and dye yarn. If the baby holds on a few more days there will be a nice big shop update coming mid / end of the week. We'll see though!
